Maxine Brett – August 2018
I would like to commend the Bitou Municipality Roads Department for the sterling job they do despite the many challenges they face and the large area they cover on a shoestring budget .
The works are progressing well and the contactor is doing a very good job. As far as their schedule goes the works will be completed end of October this year The road is open only as far as Zenon Street. The last section from Zenon Street to Market Square is still under construction. Market Square can be accessed via the N2. The Poortjies area, Lemon Grass area and Julia Avenue can be accessed via the top end of Beacon Way.
Construction of a Bypass Road
No further information as far as this goes. Members will be updated as information comes to hand.
The N2 Traffic Circle
At this stage there will be no traffic circle constructed on the N2 at the turn into Beacon Way as Sanral have deemed the project to be too expensive. No alternative options on the cards at this stage.
The works and site office on the left hand side of the N2
There are testing operations currently being conducted on the embankment in this area. A small section of one lane may be closed for short periods of time while the works take place. No findings or further information is available at this time.
Red Spray painted arrows and markings on some of the Plett RoadsPlease do not be alarmed if you see red spray painted arrows on the roads. These are being put there by a contractor to pin point problem areas in the roads while a survey is being conducted to earmark certain portions of the roads for resurfacing.

We urge residents to keep their pavements and road edges clean and neat as not only is aesthetically pleasing, it also goes a long way in keeping our roads in good condition. Vegetation growing out of the road edge damages the roads and dirt and debris clog the channels and storm water culverts. Please report potholes, missing broken signage and street lights to the Customer Care Department at the Municipality on 086 124 8686. Please obtain a fault report number for follow up if necessary.
