Dolphin Sign Meeting Update

Dear Members,

The Plett Ratepayers’ Association recently met with municipal officials to discuss the signage at the dolphin circle.  In light of the extremely adverse reaction from the public, and particularly the Ward 2 constituency, it is disappointing that a firmer leadership position on this has not been taken.

The meeting did not reach a positive conclusion, and it will require the intervention of the municipal manager or mayor if the signs are going to be removed.

We are firmly of the opinion that we do not need “instruction” on how to drive around a mini circle.  Also, that we should treat this “mini circle” differently to any other circle. Yielding to the right has worked satisfactorily for years, why change it?

We repeat our concern to the mayor that the signs are confusing and serve no purpose.  Rather than requiring a stop at the intersection, if no cars are coming from the right, traffic should be allowed to keep moving.  That is what a traffic island is for — to keep traffic flowing.

A significant number of residents have said they do not like the proliferation of all these signs.  They add no value and are unnecessarily restrictive.

Kind regards,

Peter Gaylard
