Property valuations and rates refer.
While your specific queries are best directed to the Bitou Municipality Accounts Department, to assist you we set out our understanding of the 1 July 2023 rates increase for your convenience.
The Bitou Council approved a rates increase of 7.2%, effective 1 July 2023. The Council has concurrently withdrawn the R350 000 rebate/reduction in rateable property valuations, which was introduced in prior years as a Covid relief measure.
Hence, there is an increase in your property valuation (add R350,000) to which the 7.2 % increase is applied. It is obvious therefore that the net effect is an increase in rates beyond the announced 7.2%.
Better communication of this rebate would have resulted in less confusion and frustration.
