Request for an urgent water meeting with Bitou Municipality

Dear Members,

Attached is a comprehensive water report of the actions we recommend Bitou Municipality accomplish in the short and medium term in regard to Plett's water crisis.

We are regularly monitoring the river flow and Roodefontein dam levels and unless we get some appreciable rain we are in dire straits. Knysna has also imposed drought tariffs.

The Keurbooms River provides 80% of Bitou's water supply and it has been below the allowable extraction level for over a week. The Plett Ratepayers have requested a meeting with the municipality and offered the services of our expert engineers but we have not received a reply as of yet. We have also asked what their backup plan is if water cannot be pumped out of the Keurbooms River during the high demand of season.

We encourage everyone to conserve water and we will keep you informed.

Kind regards,
Tony Blignaut
