2025 Property Valuations and AGM

Dear Members,

On April 3, we advised you of the new valuation roll (link below).  The proposed property rate tax has now been published with the draft budget and is 0,00534c/R, down from 0,00638c/R.  Bitou Municipality says this may change slightly but it is close.

To calculate your new property tax, subtract R15,000 from your valuation (the first R15k is not being taxed), and multiply by the new rate for your annual tax.

For example, if your home’s valuation is R3 million, your tax will be:

 Valuation  R3,000,000
 Less  15,000
 Subtotal  2,985,000
 X  0.00534
 Total  R15,940 pa or
R1,328 pm

You are entitled to object to the valuation of your property if you think it is incorrect by e-mail to rates@plett.gov.za by 16:00, Friday, 11 April 2025. You must, however, do so by first downloading the requisite form from the municipal website, which is listed below the Valuation Roll.

Upcoming AGM.
As a reminder, the Ratepayers’ AGM is Thursday, 10 April at 5:30 pm at the Piesang Valley Community Hall.  The guest speaker is Wayne Duvenage, CEO of OUTA.  Mr. Duvenage is a well-known champion of civil rights, specifically in the area of government spending and governance.  His best known achievements are the establishment of OUTA and the scrapping of e-tolls in Gauteng.

He has been a source of inspiration to many many Ratepayers Associations and other civil groupings that pursue the same ideals at local level.  I think you will find him most interesting.

The meeting is open to the public.

Regards,
Steve Pattinson
